Matt's Big Breakfast

Matt's Big Breakfast is one of downtown Phoenix's most well-known breakfast and brunch joints.

Cheese Omelette

Just as the name implies, the breakfast you get at Matt's Big Breakfast is hefty. But, what makes Matt's so successful is that not only do they give you quantity, but also quality. The cheese omelette was no exception. Made with three eggs and a sizeable amount of sharp cheddar cheese, the omelette was wonderfully fluffy and flavorful.

Rather than the typical hash browns, I opted for the home fries, which are not fries at all. Rather, they are tasty potato wedges cooked in olive oil and rosemary and well seasoned to finish. While a touch too salty for my tastes, the potatoes still managed to disappear from the plate by the end of the meal.

Finally, the toast. As a devout lover of bread who eats toast and jam daily, I was thrilled to have this familiar guest at my breakfast table, and I wasn't disappointed. The bread is thick-cut and tastes freshly baked. It has the right amount of chew and a thick, but not overly hard crust. The homemade jam is fruity and not overwhelmingly sweet, as some jams can be.

All in all, Matt's Big Breakfast was a smashing success, and worth the wait you most likely will have to endure.
